Embracing Uncertainty and Embrace Your Greatness

Trying something new will always make you nervous but not trying it will keep you small.

I’ve been swirling around in my head so many ideas that I know would be amazingly successful.  However, the little devil on the left side of my shoulder always suppresses the feeling of actually going forth with what I want to accomplish.  I heard this quote on Oprah’s Life Class with Brene’ Brown as I am typing this…

“It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better.  The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly because there is no effort without error and shortcoming…”Theodore Roosevelt.

This quote is the story of my life and as Martin would say “Ain’t nothing to it but to do it”.  We learn and are successful through trial and error, but how are we going to know if we’re good enough if we don’t try and put ourselves out there, making ourselves vulnerable.  People, folk, man will be critical and hate on you but that’s a part of getting your bumps and bruises along the way.  It’s time to get in the arena and be a part.

When I tried out for American Idol (when I was young enough, tee hee)  I tried out right after Fantasia won.  Of course you know Jennifer Hudson was a part of that season as well.  I got turned down for every audition.  I chalked it up to that they’ve already casted a Jennifer Hudson type.  So whenever someone hears me sing they always tell me, you should try out and I would say nah they’re not going to cast me they’ve already had Jennifer Hudson.  A young lady said to me, but they don’t have a Rhenotha Whitaker.  That really helped me own my own craft and move forward without worrying about what someone else is doing even if they are trying to do the same thing.  I may have a different take on how its presented, but no one will ever know if I don’t put it out there :).

You can’t go through your life saying “What if”, “I shoulda coulda woulda” or “I thought of that first”.  If you have something that you are passionate about and want to show the world, go forth without fear.  You don’t know whats on the other side of it, but at least you can say “I” did.

Be bold and shock the world and don’t forget to stay tuned 😉
