The portrayal of Being Mary Jane has come under fire. It’s been touted as a disgrace to black women and even the show’s producers say Mary Jane is not a role model, she is entertainment. Are we sacrificing our integrity, image and self respect for ratings or is this a portrayal of all women with a black women’s face?
I’ve identified with Mary Jane solely for the reason of being the person in the family that everyone can count on, but if you know me, you know the other things (the sex and mess) that comes along with Mary Jane is not me, however, Mary Jane is a lot of women. Should this part of women be televised? The crazy and I mean crazy things “we” do to keep a man or the cavalier way we chose to live our lives? I know the executives have said it’s entertainment but at what price? This is what BET has to offer our young impressionable female future Doctors, Anchors, Publicists and Philanthropists? The House Wives and Love and Hip Hop are already doing a great job of showing us what not to look up to. I would say BET has a responsibility to to show us What Extraordinary looks like. Catch it! Well I’m just saying; that’s my two cents and with that said, lets see if Season 2 will continue to “entertain” us.

She’s not the face go the Black woman or all women. She’s the face of a lonely and unsatisfied woman. She’s a woman who has no peace.
