I had the honor of Hosting the 19th Annual Cancer Survivors Day for Beth Israel Hospital in Newark, NJ. I must say this was the BEST celebration of cancer survivors I have ever attended!
Organized by Beth Staff Diann Boyd Barnett Nurse Manager – Cancer Center and Aida Chiles, Practice Manager/Fellowship Coordinator, Beth Israel started celebrating their patients 19 years ago in the hospital cafeteria with 50 people and it has grown into a celebration of over 500 survivors!
The years of survival ranged from 6 months of survival to 53 years of survival. It was truly inspiring to see the hope and happiness on the faces. Words of encouragement were given by The Beth’s President and CEO Darrell Terry, Motivational Speaker Dr. Dee C. Marshall of Girlfriends Pray as well as Beth Israel’s Fredrick B. Cohen Cancer Center namesake, Fredrick B. Cohen himself at 90 years of age. The highlight of the evening was the encouraging words given by Event Organizer, Dianne Boyd-Barnett. She began the event 19 years ago and imparted words to fill the hearts that will last them for the rest of the year. All in all it was truly an amazing day.
